what is link?
LINK is a three week internship program that prepares Animas High School juniors for a potential career by immersing them in a real world job experience.
business description :
There is one thing that is a constant source of inspiration and uplift to the Human Spirit—Art. The Creative Spirit of Art carries its own unique movement of expression, in multi-dimensional experimentation and representation. In this realm of expression, our deepest emotions and hidden passions can come to life. Art gives us the opportunity to live in the moving moment that is felt within. We experience a union there. And this union feeds our search for that movement. It motivates the artist, the creator. A sacred circle is completed.

project :
My project was making jewelry in the gallery as a featured artist. I make beaded necklaces, bracelets, and earrings with all natural semi - precious stones and glass. No two pieces are exactly alike. This project speaks to my soul, as I have made jewelry since I was little, and it always brings me peace.

LInk reflection
Before my LINK internship I learned the importance of greeting people as a business professional, thanks to my side hustle of making and selling jewelry. It is essential to talk to people and form a connection with a potential customer, you never know who you might meet. Good communication is key for running a gallery as well, especially one like Create Art and Tea with 70 local artists dropping off art and picking up checks. Planning and scheduling are an everyday task, so making sure everybody is on the same page is essential.
One thing that I got to learn a lot about was advertising, and how to cater your advertisements to certain people on social media platforms. Specifically on Facebook. It’s kind of scary but also pretty cool. I learned that you can choose between certain age groups, economic classes, interests, gender identities, etc, so you’ll have the best chance of people being interested in what you have for sale, and hopefully they will invest. For example, a golf club company wants to advertise to all the people that play golf. So Facebook will go through profiles and choose to display the ad on the feeds of those who may want to purchase golf clubs. It’s important to be able to advertise to an audience that is more likely to buy what they see.
The hardest part was getting dressed everyday. It’s important to look professional, with an artistic touch, when you are the face of a gallery, but having a limited selection of fancy clothes is a challenge. I don’t really wear dresses, my daily outfit is a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. I had to go shopping to find things more suitable than what was already in my closet.
I feel very lucky to have been offered a job at Caprice’s new location, and it’s thanks to the fact that I got to intern with her and I got to build a strong relationship with her. We have become good friends and I think that’s important for other Animas High students to build relationships with potential employers, and get real world experience to be prepared for potential careers.
This internship has opened so many doors for me, I now know the extent of what it takes to run a gallery, which is a lot, and back breaking in some instances. But the pros outweigh the cons. The ability to work for myself and run my own show is really appealing to me. Even more so after completing my internship. Talking to artists and talking to customers, finding a place to rent or buy, designing a floor plan, hanging art on the walls, cleaning shelves and windows. It’s all about seeing potential, and making it all come together so that the charm of an art gallery can be shared with anybody who walks through the door.
